My name is Simon Talbot. I started working at St Mary's in January 2015. I cover PPA across the school where I teach P.E and Forest Schools. I am responsible for co-ordinating P.E. Previously I have worked teaching P.E in secondary schools but more recently have taught in Primary Schools in Newport and Monmouthshire.

My name is Jayne Watkins and I have worked at St. Mary's Primary since 1987 and am now a member of the Senior Management Team. I am one of a team of eight teachers in the Junior Department who all work together to provide a broad range of experiences for the children. I have taught a number of age ranges throughout the school. I find that my job is fulfilling and rewarding, bringing new challenges every day. I have many roles in St Marys these consist of; Key Stage 2 Leader of Learning, Performance Management Appraiser, NQT and EPD Mentor, Student and volunteer mentor and Literacy/English Support Coordinator.

 

My name is Michelle Sandford. I began teaching at St. Mary's in 2005 as a Newly Qualified Teacher. I started as the Key Stage Two PPA. I am now teaching Year 5. I am the Wider Skills lead teacher and I enjoy finding new and exciting ways for children to develop their skills. I like the challenges that teaching brings and it is a privilege to be part of the St. Mary's team.

My name is Angela Medlicott. I have been fortunate to have taught at St. Mary's since 1990. My curriculum area is History. I enjoy being part of a hardworking, supportive staff. I am a staff representative for our school's P.T.A. The members work tirelessly behind the scenes to provide extra money for the school through a variety of fund-raising activities. I appreciate the way in which our parents fully support the aspirations of the school. I am the History Coordinator Together we strive to bring out the best in each pupil in an atmosphere of trust and understanding. The pupils at our school know that both teachers and parents fully support them and I am proud to be part of that team.

 

My name is Emma Young and I teach in Year 2. In past years I have been a P.P.A Teacher, teaching PE throughout the school since 2007. I am the Health and Wellbeing Coordinator, Curriculum Enrichment Coordinator and Extra Curricular Co-ordinator and organise various clubs at lunchtimes and after school. I previously worked in Darenfelen Primary school where I was a class teacher for nine years. I have a keen interest in physical education and therefore I find my role in St Mary's very rewarding.

My name is Donna Brend. I joined St.Mary's in September 2014.I am currently teaching a Year 6 class. I am a member of SLT and have the role of Achievement and Inclusion. I a have a love of mathematics and reading, which hopefully inspires the learners. I am looking forward to the challenge that teaching at St. Mary's will offer. I have many roles at St Marys some of these include; Assessment, Recording and Reporting Coordinator, Equalities Leader, Performance Development Appraiser Lead Practitioner – Numeracy and Mathematics/Numeracy Coordinator.

My name is Carol Davies. I have been teaching in St. Mary's since 2007 firstly, as a P.P.A Teacher for Music and now teaching a Year 6 class. I am Science Coordinator and KS2 Library Co-ordinator and run a sewing club. I am looking forward to the challenges this year will bring. 

 

 

 

My name is Rhiain Pewtner and I have been teaching at St. Mary's since 2001 and have taught a range of Year 3, 4, 5 and 6 children. Here at St. Mary's we work as a team and support one another. I am Design Technology Coordinator and currently teach Year 6.

I have taken part in the Newport Art Showcase, which involved producing digital images of the children's work, lesson plans and evaluations, providing other teachers, (both locally and nationally) with ideas. I have also helped to write material for Design and Technology.

My name is Suzanne Koetser. I have worked at St Mary’s since 2008. I have been a teacher for 16 years and taught children in both key stages. I love teaching at St Mary’s. My reward is helping the children flourish within a stimulating and caring environment. I am currently Art co-ordinator, a subject I am passionate about and PSE/EPR Coordinator.

Mrs Wilson

 

I have worked at St. Mary's Primary school since 1987. My main job is to work with children with special needs within the classroom. This involves working with groups or individuals who may need extra help in certain areas of the curriculum. I also help with art/craft and display within the class. Each week I, together with other staff, teach swimming and also keep the swimming records, order and write the swimming certificates. I organise the 100 club - which is a fund raising event run every week supported by the parents and staff to raise money for school funds. I am first aid trained and attend to any children who may have accidents at playtimes.I really enjoy my job as every day is different. Mary Wilson

My name is Damian Richardson and I have been employed at St. Mary's since 2004. During that time I have completed an NVQ Level 3 for Teaching Assistants.

My duties include supporting Key Stage 1 and 2 pupils, both within the classroom and during lunchtime. I run the Forest Schools Programme throughout the school.

My name is Melanie Gorny. I have been working at St. Mary's for several years. I was initially employed as a midday supervisor, but now I am a full time member of the support staff. I am a qualified NVQ Level 3 Teacher's Assistant.

I work with mainly Reception, supporting individual pupils and groups with art and craft and out-door learning activities. This involves learning through experiences and I am pleased to be a part of this.

I have been working throughout the school since 2005 and am a fully qualified Level 3 Teaching Assistant.

My job involves supporting the children's learning in small groups, creative activities, listening to reading and also supervising them at dinnertime. I am currently working in Y1 where we are teaching and learning through the Foundation Phase. Paulina O'Connor

My name is Mary Keane and I am an NVQ Level 3 Teaching Assistant. I have been with St. Mary's as a Teaching Assistant since April 2007. Initially part time, I am now full time supporting Reception. My duties include working with small groups of children within the classroom, helping them to complete a task set by the teacher. I also take Group Guided Reading and am a Midday Supervisor. I enjoy my work very much.

 

 

My name is Julie Hodgson. I joined St. Mary's in 2009 as a Teaching Assistant in Reception. I have a Cache level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification and bring nine years experience working with children in nursery setting and Foundation Phase to the school

My name is Emily Thomas. I have recently qualified as a teacher after completing my PGCE Primary at Cardiff Metropolitan University. Prior to this I graduated in Education and Early Childhood Studies and then had experience of working as a Teaching Assistant in a SEN setting. I am now teaching in Reception and enjoy working with the children, staff and parents. The staff at St Mary's have allowed me to settle in and become part of the team. I am looking forward to the rest of the year and the challenges it will bring.

 

My name is Meghan Hoy and I teach Music PPA across the school.  I have just completed my Primary PGCE with Cardiff Metropolitan University and am lucky to begin my teaching career here at St. Mary’s.  I have a keen interest in art and creativity and look forward to running Dance club.

My name is Emma Wilkinson and I started working in St Mary’s Primary in 2013 as a Year 4 teacher. I have a degree in Educational studies from Swansea Metropolitan University which lasted 3 years. After this I went on to complete my PGCE year in Swansea University.  I am the ICT coordinator of the School and run a coding club. I really enjoy teaching here at St Mary’s and hope to inspire children with the ever growing modern technology and the benefits of Physical Education throughout the curriculum.

Mrs Guilfoyle

My name is Marina Guilfoyle and I work in the office as a School Support Officer. My duties are varied and cover a wide range of administrative tasks. I am also responsible for the administration of the school private fund. This involves the collection of money for school trips, music lessons, uniform etc. I enjoy working in a happy, busy office.

My name is Dawn Jones. I became School Support Officer in April 2008. My duties include assisting the Headteacher as well as financial and administrative processes such as attendance, orders, invoices and payroll. It is likely that if you call at or ring the school, your first point of contact will be myself or Mrs Guilfoyle and we look forward to assisting you with any enquiry.

My name is Emma Brown. I began working at St Mary’s in 2011 as a Teaching Assistant. During my time at St Mary’s I have provided support, to small groups and in classrooms, across both Key Stages and I am currently teaching a Year 2 class. I am passionate about Mathematics and have a degree in Education and Mathematics from Cardiff University.

I have always aspired to become a teacher and I am proud to be a part of the St Mary’s team.

 

My name is Sarah Coles, I have been working at St Mary’s since 2011. I am a qualified NVQ Level 2 teaching assistant. I started in Year 2 supporting small groups of children throughout their learning. I am currently in Year 1 where am I enjoying the new challenges that every day brings.

My name is Joanne Thomas and I have been teaching at St Mary’s since September 2013.  I am Foundation Leader and currently teach the Reception children and thoroughly enjoy the challenge this brings.  Before I joined the team at St Mary’s I was working as a supply teacher in schools across Newport and prior to that had been working in England for 14 years teaching a range of year groups from Reception to Year 6.  I am the schools Eco link teacher and run the Eco Club and Eco Committee and have responsibility  for ESDGC across the school. 
My name is Sarah Evans and I am originally from North Wales. I first started teaching in 2012 and joined St Mary's in March 2014. I am a fluent Welsh speaker and enjoy developing the children's Welsh skills across the curriculum. I am Welsh Second Language Lead Coordinator and teach in Year 3.

My name is Tayona Powell, I have worked at St Mary’s since 2011. I started in foundation phase, working in the reception class, supporting the children’s learning in small groups. I currently work in Year 6 where my main role is to support children with special needs within the classroom. This includes working with groups or individuals who may need extra help in certain areas of the curriculum. My job is very rewarding and I look forward to the year ahead.

My name is Cathy Metcalf. I am the Year 5 teacher. I am the music coordinator and I'm lucky to also work closely with visiting Music tutors, giving the children opportunities to explore Music from around the world. I also run the Infant and Junior choirs and am looking forward to working with a new School Orchestra next year as many pupils begin new instrumental projects and lessons.

My name is Fiona Rein and I have taught at St Mary’s since 2009. I am presently job sharing with Mrs Lynch in Year 1 and have been a teacher for several years. I enjoy teaching children in the Foundation Stage, and have teaching experience from Nursery to Year 3. I am currently responsible for Collective Worship within the school and lead the Mission and Chaplaincy group (MAC). Previously, I was responsible for the co-ordination of Art and enjoyed presenting the children’s art work in our regular school Art Exhibitions.
My name is Rhiannon Amos, I joined St Mary's in February 2014. I am a qualified CACHE Level 2 teaching assistant. I am embracing the challenge of working in Year 2 supporting small groups of children and helping them to complete tasks set by the class teacher. I find my job very rewarding and feel very lucky to be a part of St Mary's.

My name is Jayne Morgan and I started working at St. Mary’s Primary School in September 2014. I’m employed as a Level 3 Teaching Assistant and work mainly in Key Stage 2. I previously worked at Caerleon Comprehensive School supporting children with additional needs.

My job is very varied which is one of the reasons I enjoy it so much. I am a cover supervisor when needed; I run literacy and numeracy intervention groups and carry out 1 to 1 support in class with certain pupils.

Different year groups are able to join me at homework club each day. This is run at lunch time to give additional support to any pupils that may need it.The pupils of St. Mary’s are very energetic and enthusiastic which makes coming to work each day a real pleasure.

 

 

My name is Holly Purkiss and I am a CACHE Level 2 Teaching Assistant. I have been working at St Mary's since September 2015 initially supporting pupils with additional needs in Key Stage 2. Currently,  I work in Reception where I support small groups of children with their learning. I thoroughly enjoy the challenges and rewards my role brings and feel blessed to be a member of the team at St. Mary's.
